Far Cry 3 producer Patrick Plourde, who has been a senior developer at Ubisoft for more than 20 years, has officially announced his departure from the company. Plourde announced earlier this week (April 13) that he would be leaving Ubisoft and set up an independent consulting firm. “It was a privilege to work together,” Plourde said on his personal Twitter account. The producer worked at Ubisoft on Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas, Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry 3, Watch Dogs 2 and Child of Light. He added that he would continue to work with Ubisoft as long as possible and would devote time to some personal projects.
Far Cry 3 producer to continue with consulting firm
Plourde told Axios that he would “be outside a traditional structure and will be involved in other areas outside the game.” The former Ubisoft producer has previously taken on many different roles within Ubisoft. He was a game designer on the original Assassins’ Creed and later as a director in Assassins’ Creed: Brotherhood. In 2014, he also worked as a producer on child of light and Far Cry 3.
In fact, this breakup isn’t the first, and it doesn’t look like it’s going to be the last. Ubisoft continues to bleed, with five of the top 25 employees working at Far Cry 6 in recent years and twelve of the top 50 in Assassins’ Creed: Vallahala leaving the company. The reasons for the departures include low pay, attractive offers from other firms and the sexism and harassment of the Headquarters in the workplace.
