AMD Chief Executive Lisa Su made several predictions about the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles at a recent event with investors. He said he expects next-generation console sales to increase in 2022 before peaking in 2023.
He added: “I think, first of all, the presence and cycle of the console feels the effect of every period. I mean, considering the process and the power of the cycle, we’re a little closer to the second year now, and the fact that demand is very high is obvious.
We ship a lot of products. The fact that demand is still high pleases both Microsoft and Sony. We’re continuing to accelerate. We increase our productions at a certain capacity.
We expect 2022 to be another year of strong growth for consoles. If you look at the typical console cycle, the peak actually falls in the fourth year. Therefore, perhaps 2023 may be the peak year of consoles. “
The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles were released in November 2020.
