2016’s XCOM 2 was a turn-based tactical game highly acclaimed by both critics and gamers. The new Bit Reactor studio, co-founded by Greg Foertsch, artistic director of XCOM 2, could therefore be interpreted as an exciting development.
Bit Reactor will focus on turn-based tactical games, Foertsch believes this genre has lagging behind in recent years.
“While almost all types of games have kept pace with the new generation of technology, one thing is clear that turn-based tactical games have been largely ignored and there is an incredibly large area for innovation,” says Foertsch.
“We have a team-oriented culture and an incredible team of talented, experienced and dedicated game developers; so that the genre shines with rich storytelling, impressive presentation and robust gameplay mechanics – the golden age of turn-based games is about to come back”
The studio is currently working on a project they haven’t announced, and says it’s a game that blurs the line between a strategy game and an action game.
In fact, in recent years, there have been some very good turn-based tactical games, such as Mutant: Year Zero. But as lovers of the genre, of course we don’t say no to more.
