Earlier this week, Nintendo released its quarterly financial report, which revealed a decline in both hardware and software (gaming) sales. The decline in Nintendo Switch sales was attributed to component shortages. Now, a new report shows that Nintendo is focused on meeting its current hardware sales targets. This means that the company will not announce any new consoles in 2022.
As reported by Nikkei, Nintendo is making many moves to reach the sales figures it wants. Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said in a statement: “We are not producing much this summer compared to previous periods.”
Furukawa told Nikkei that it aims to produce 21 million Switch consoles by the fiscal year ending in March 2023. But it’s unclear if Nintendo will be able to supply enough parts to meet those sales targets.
Right now, Nintendo’s focus is on bringing more existing Switch consoles to market and increasing sales. It seems unlikely that the company, which has experienced a decline due to the component shortage, will announce new hardware this year.
