Illustrator Mick McGinty, famous for his cover image for Street Fighter 2 and more, has died. McGinty meant the same thing as video game cover photos for players in the ’90s. Perhaps his most famous work was the Street Fighter 2 cover image he created for SNES in the 1990s.

Mcginty’s cover image for Street Fighter 2 was, to many, “westernized” the game. At the time, however, it was common practice among giant firms like Nintendo to ask for a completely region-specific drawing. The visual that illustrates Chun-Li’s fight with Blanka has become one of the most famous cover images in the history of the game over time. McGinty also continued to design drawings for variations of Street Fighter 2 – super street fighter 2 and street fighter 2 turbo.
McGinty also made visuals for streets of rage 2 and games like Streets of Rage 3, Kid Chameleon and Shining Force. McGinty’s last project was to give an interview in the street fighter 2 documentary Here Comes A New Challenger.
McGinty was sharing his drawings on social media on his websitein 2016.
