PlayStation 5, the next generation console offered to players by Sony, continues to sell. In its report for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2022, Sony announced that the PlayStation 5 sold 25 million units worldwide. Accordingly, a total of 3.3 million PlayStation 5 consoles were sold in the three months ended September 30, 2022.
PlayStation Plus Subscription Numbers Are Declining
Sony has also announced the current figures that its other services have, apart from PS5 console sales. As of September 30, 2022, there were 45.4 million PlayStation Plus subscribers. This represents a decrease of 1.8 million subscribers compared to 47.2 million subscribers in the same period of the previous financial year.
On the other hand, Sony announced that the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 software sold a total of 62.5 million units in the three months ending September 30, 2022. This represents a decrease of 13.9 million from the 76.4 million software sold in the same period of the previous fiscal year. These software sales include games and other downloadable content.
Again, compared to the 7.6 million units sold in the same period of the previous financial year, 6.7 million first-party games were sold in this new period. 63 percent of software sales account for full game digital downloads.
