Housemarque released a new update to Returnal that will be able to suspend your progress. Thanks to this feature, it is now possible to leave the game even in the middle of the cycles, you can pick up where you left off when you start again, but that suspended point is deleted with you continuing. Housemarque said it wasn’t a recording feature, just a way to get players to continue the cycles later.
However, immediately after this update, players wanted to try to see if this feature could be exploited, and we can say that they succeeded in this. Game reporter Joseph Yaden found that if you suspend the game and leave, and then transfer that data to the cloud, you create a kind of recording point.
When you return to the game, the point you suspended is deleted, but if you die, instead of starting over, you restore the data you transferred to the cloud and try your luck from the same point again.
I’m sure that’s not what Housemarque had in mind, so if they can block this technique, they’ll come up with an update to do it. Otherwise, it’s the same thing even if they bring registration to the game.
