Electronic Arts acquired Codemasters, the developer of the F1 and DIRT series, for $1.2 billion earlier this year.
In an interview with the MCV, Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson said they have no intention of turning Codemasters into an Electronic Arts studio and that Codemasters will protect its own identity.
“Similar to Respawn, our orientation is not to take over Codemasters or turn them into another Electronic Arts studio. Our orientation is to enable them.”
Codemasters will remain Codemasters and benefit from resources such as technology and marketing owned by Electronic Arts.
The first Codemasters game to debut under electronic arts publishing will be F1 2021 and will be released under the EA Sports brand.
