Electronic Arts (EA) announced Criterion Games will now work on a completely new Battlefield game. This situation pushed the future of the Need for Speed series that Criterion team worked on for many years. As the series did not have any work for the next game, Criterion has now been noted that the Criterion works on the only multiplayer mode of Battlefield.
Need for Speed Unbound As The Latest Game
Criterion Games has managed to keep the series standing with successful games such as Need for Speed Unbound in recent years. But in 2023, a large part of the Criterion team was shifted to the Battlefield project. As part of this transition, the EA announced that Criterion will serve as one of the four studios called Battlefield Studios.
The name at the beginning of the Battlefield series Vince Zampella confirmed that Criterion is now “integrated” to Battlefield. Zampella said they were planning to pay attention to community feedback, in order to fans Need for Speed, and to bring back to the series “new and interesting ways” in the future. However, this description did not eliminate the uncertainty when the series will have a new game.
Need for Speed Unbound, released in
2022, passed records as the last game of the series. The game worked to please the player community with two years of support plans. However, Criterion announced that they are no longer planning a new content for Unbound in the statement that he did shortly ago. This decision increased concerns about the future of the series.
Home Need for Speed, which once comes from players with a new game every year, is preparing to give the longest rail at present. As Battlefield’s release date is not yet disclosed, Need for Speed’s return can be delayed further. While EA’s Criterion team shifts to Battlefield, Need for Speed disappoints fans, it’s seen as a hope light that the company’s serial is not completely removed from the shelf. However, for the moment, Need for Speed protects the uncertainty.
