It was claimed that electronic arts’ servers had been infiltrated by a group of hackers in the past month and that the source code of FIFA 21 and frostbite game engine had been stolen. There are current developments in this regard.
The group in question tried to contact EA and extort money from them to avoid sharing these source codes. And when they didn’t get a response from the EA front, they decided to share some of the files they had. So they’re trying to corner EA and convince them to make a payment.
According to information shared by Vice, the group’s 1.3GB file contains references to some of the tools used by EA and Origin. The group also shared some screenshots with Motherboard, which were screenshots related to The Sims.
The hacker group says they will leak 780 GB of data they stole if EA does not reach them and pay them. But past examples show that’s not how it works. The statement from the EA front is in this respect; “We are aware of the posts made by the hackers and are reviewing the published files. At this stage, we believe there is no risk to the players’ personal information. There is no indication that we should be concerned that he poses a risk to our games and our players. We will continue to work in cooperation with the security services.”
We’ll see if the group bluffs or leaks all the data.
