Speaking at the Extended Xbox Game Showcase, Pete Hines, vice president of marketing and communications at Bethesda Softworks, shared new information about Starfield. While Hines and Malik Prince, the Xbox communications manager, were chatting about the game’s open-ended gameplay, we learned that we could forge our own path in the game, not necessarily following a pre-written story.
During the conversation, Pete Hines also said that we can kill whoever we want in Starfield, steal spaceships, and fly with these ships.
Talking about stealing items from shops, he said, “We don’t want to limit too much what players can and can’t do. I wonder what happens if I try this; We like it when they try and say,” Hines said, adding that it would be possible to commit more serious crimes.
“If you want, you can spend thousands of hours just building ships, and you can set that as your focus. If you want, you can come across all the planets, or follow the main story. No approach is wrong. For example, I went and stole a ship, shot down its entire crew, and flew. You can do anything. I think that’s what makes a Bethesda Game Studios game special.”
Malik Prince replied, “Thank you for giving me the idea of stealing other people’s ships. “Starfield is number one on my list of things to do.” It was a good conversation, you can watch it from the 52nd minute below:
