The 94th Academy Awards were held in the morning. Dune was the most awarded film of the night, while there were many firsts.
The event, which probably won’t be out of the spotlight for a long time, was when Will Smith took to the stage and slapped host Chris Rock. The incident, which was initially thought to be a missen because of the censorship of voices, is completely real. When Chris Rock made a joke about Will Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith shaving her head before presenting the Best Documentary Award, Will Smith came on stage and made the gesture that overshadowed the ceremony. And when Smith took his seat, he continued to insult Chris Rock. Then, when he won an Oscar, he gave a speech apologizing to the Academy, but he didn’t address it. “Love makes you do crazy things,” he said.
Director Jane Campion was not only the first director to be nominated twice in this category for The Power of the Dog, but also won the award. Will Smith won his first Oscar for King Richard.
Denis Villeneuve’s Dune won for Best Sound, Best Production Design, Best Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects and Best Original Music.
